Pre-London Long Run

Sunday March 31st
First runners away at 09:00
Don't forget to put your clocks forward one hour!!!

For many years (about 30!) we have organised a long training run for members competing in the London Marathon. Although this is for members of CRC we invite anyone to join us.
In order to best simulate the London Marathon route we have established a flat route around the Somerset levels. This route has been officially measured at 21.9 miles. To avoid any serious hills we start and finish at the main car park in South Petherton. This is in the centre of the town and is easy to find.
The route is well marked but not marshaled, maps should be available but not really needed. We encourage runners to set off in groups of similar ability with slower groups starting first. This is quite important as it enables us to support runners with water stops at approx. 3 mile intervals with a minimum number of people.
As a rough guide if you anticipate doing a 4 hour plus marathon you should start at 9:00 with faster runners starting in groups at intervals. This is not a race. If you decide to start earlier than 9:00 we may not be able to support you on the whole of the route.
Not everyone will complete the 22.5 miles and we can arrange lifts back to the finish for those people.
At the end of the run there are hot and cold drinks and food laid on picnic style in the car park.
We welcome visitors and do not make a charge but if you wish to make a donation towards the food that is very welcome.
